Pour Your Own Candles - Frequently Asked Questions

Got Questions? Here's some of the most commonly asked. If you don't see an answer to your questions, contact us today!

  • What are your hours? We're currently closed until further notice due to COVID-19 restrictions and the ultimate safety of our customers.
  • How long should I give myself to make my own candle? We’re here to make sure you have a great time making your own candle, and 30 minutes is typically enough time to choose your scents and pour, but relax, have fun- we’re not going to be pushing you out the door if it’s taking a little longer!
  • What Payments do you accept in store? Card Payments Only In-Store. We accept most major credit & debit cards, but we don't accept cash, checks or other payment types right now.
  • Can I bring my own container/vessel? You can, however it will need to be inspected by our expert candlemakers and we can’t offer any guarantees that you’ll be able to use it. Thin glass, porcelain or anything with hairline cracks or certain coatings & sealants may not be suitable and unfortunately we won’t be able to allow you to use them. If you’re not sure if your container is suitable, feel free to reach out to us and we’ll do our best to advise over the phone or by email, but all containers will need to be inspected prior to use. Pricing will vary depending on container volume.
  • Do I need to book in advance? Group of 4 or less don’t need to book, although it is recommended. You can use our super convenient online booking or reach out via email or phone. Groups of over 4 will generally need to book - however if it’s a last minute activity just give us a quick call and we’ll see what we can do.
  • What is the largest group you're able to accommodate? We’re set up to allow up to 8 people simultaneously, but larger groups can take turns as one make-your-own candle session will typically last around 30 minutes from start to finish.
  • What's the latest I can come in? “Last Pour” will be 45 minutes before the store is due to close. With advance notice, we may be able to schedule large groups outside of regular business hours. Please contact us for more information.
  • Is there an age restriction? Nope. Due to the nature of pouring candles, you will be dealing with molten wax at around 180 Degrees, so it’s not recommended for people who may struggle to hold a jug of wax steady (usually not more than 2lbs) or young children- however everyone will need to sign our accident & liability waiver, and persons under the age of 16 will need a parent or legal guardian’s signature assuming responsibility for them.
  • I have fragrance sensitivities- is this for me? It’s hard to say. The Fragrance Bar does, by it’s very nature, have a lot of fragrance in the air and it may cause irritation if you know you suffer from fragrance sensitivity. That said, all of our fragrances are high quality and free from Phthalates, one of the most common respiratory irritants in fragrance oils. You’re welcome to stop by and check- and we can provide masks should you wish, or you may bring your own.
  • I’ve seen candles with stuff added in them, like Glitter, or Lavender and Rosemary sprigs. Can I add that to my candle? We thought long and hard about this. There’s a huge number of reasons we don’t add anything to our candles - but mainly because Soy Wax is all about being less toxic and more friendly to the user, and additives like Glitter and many Dyes can have a harmful effect on the air you breathe in. Think of it this way - Glitter is typically made from plastic. When you light a candle with Glitter on it, every piece of glitter that reaches the wick melts, and releases plastic toxins into the air. As far as “natural” dried additives like Lavender, coffee beans or other herbs are concerned, these may look cute at first, but not only do they hinder burn (and scent) performance, they are incredibly dangerous- once lit these absorb wax and can essentially become additional wicks, which can create large flames hot enough to crack or damage containers and easily cause damaging fires. We’re all about the best possible products, so that doesn’t just include great ingredients- it’s about ensuring the safest and least harmful candles possible so whilst we appreciate that it may look cool - it doesn’t make for a great candle.
  • What scents can I choose from? We have over 100 fragrances to choose from, and you can choose up to 3 to blend together to make something totally unique. (Who hasn’t wanted a Hazelnut and Bacon scented candle, right?!) Fragrances are subject to change based on availability and any seasonal rotations we have, so keep checking back in-store. We’re always happy for suggestions though, so please don’t hesitate to let us know your “dream” scent!
  • What if I hate the fragrance I create? Everybody makes mistakes! If you decide that the “Coffee and Mimosa” scent you always thought you wanted really isn’t for you, we’ll allow one do-over free of charge in goodwill so long as you haven’t added it to the wax- but we reserve the right to refuse this if we feel it’s being abused, as fragrance oils are incredibly expensive.
  • I'm only in town for one day, can I still Pour My Own? Welcome to Knoxville! Absolutely you can. Although most candles aren’t ready for collection until the next business day- we will be happy to ship your creation to your door. Shipping rates will apply, but having shipped tens of thousands of orders in the last 3 years you can rest assured we’ll get it to you quickly, safely and affordably.
